HARRIS: GEORGE & HARRY - Golf Professionals

Post by Harrisette » Sun Jan 15, 2006 8:12 pm

George and Harry were Golfers at Braemar and Mar Lodge around 1901. They were born in Sandwich Kent. Does anyone have any information about them after that? [/b]

Hello Harrisette

Welcome to TS

I am sorry i cant really answer your question but, were the brothers (?) proffesional golfers ? You say they were born in Kent, were they bought up there or Scotland or just in Braemar for a short while playing golf ?
Are they on the 1901 Scottish census ?
Just wondering if there are any sites about golfers past :?

Sorry there are so many questions for your first post :!:

George Thomas Harris (b1874)andhis brother Harry James (b1877) were born in Sandwich, Kent and went to Scotland around 1903-1905 (after the 1901 census had them both living in Brighton) to work as golf professionals. Harry was mentioned in a book celebrating the centenary of Braemar golf club which says he returned to England in 1906 and George (according to the book) after working at Mar Lodge, became Private PGA Professional to the Duke and Duchess of Fife at the Royal Craggan from 1909 to 1921 then he returned to England too. The trail goes cold there, so I am wondering if either left any children behind (so to speak!!) George had a daughter Helen, born in 1897 and I wondered if he had anymore while in Scotland.
Thanks for your interest, Tracey
