London address information .....

Post by fmackay » Fri Feb 10, 2006 8:25 pm

Hi there
I've just received a copy of one of my relative's marriage certificates. She got married in parish of Battersea London in 1931. I would like to know details of the address which both gave as their residence at time of marriage. Her husbands profession is listed as Footman, her occupation is not listed, so I'm thinking perhaps they were in service.
Is it possible to find out info about a particular address.
Also they were married in the Established Church, would that be a scottish church?
thanks
Fiona

Hi Fiona,

In England, the Established Church should be the Church of England.

All the best,

Hi Fiona

St Columba's Church in Pont Street near Knightbridge is not that far from Battersea - just the other side of the river (Thames) so wouldnt come under Parish of Battersea.
What was the name of the road ?

Despite what much of Battersea looks like today you can see how affluent it once was there along with most of South London in its heyday
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Tracy
The cert reads "Marriage solemnized at The Parish Church in the Parish of Battersea in the County of London.
Address for the couple is 133a or 153a Church Road.

Looking at the two webpages below, it looks like St Mary's is the parish church of Battersea - see what you think.

Spooky !!

Battersea Church Road which is SW11 I DO KNOW !!

Along this road - which runs along the river - The Church there St-Mary's is next to a Wharf, Old Swan Wharf. My dads uncle had a boat moored there which he lived on and used to pay the Vicar mooring fee's in the way of Whisky !!

Sorry it took so long

Hi Tracey
Thanks!
My relative married a Frank Spendlove in 1931 in Battersea. One of their children was born in Lambeth.
Other than that I know very little
cheers
Fiona
