A word of warning about ordering birth, marriage and death certificates online: you should do this only through the GRO site only www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0
Reputable sites like 1837Online provide links to this facility, but there are others who will charge over the odds. You should never pay more than the GRO rate of £7 for the normal service. There is also a £23 Priority Service, but you'd have to be rich and impatient to use that!

Excellent point
A Google search will bring up prominent links to the following, -
http://www.bmd-certificates.co.uk/ makes much use of the word "official". While they might well work on the basis of less precise info that the GRO require, they charge an eye-watering £25 for a 15 business day service, £40 for 5 days, and £60 for a 24 hr service.
http://www.ukcertificates.com/?ref=googleuk is much more obviously a private company. They charge £19.95 for a 15 day service, £44.95 for a 3 to 4 day service, with an option for special delivery postage for an additional £5.
For the great majority of genealogical researchers the situation will be that they already have the information required for an on-line order direct to GRO at £7; GROS at £11 in person at NRH, £13 by post or telephone, £16 by internet, but note that if you have paid the entry fee to search at NRH an "extract" only costs £8, and £10 via ScotlandsPeople.
I'm not sure what GRONI's rates are, but they won't be much different.
