Hello Everyone
Could some please do a look up for me as I need the deaths of my great grandparents who died in Liverpool in 1912 and 1913. Their names are Peter and Margaret Menzies he is a lot older than his wife by about 20 years. I need to find out who the father are so I can find the births. Peter came from Scotland and Margaret fron England.

Hi Heather
Searching the English index is rather different to searching many others. Ancestry has free access to FreeBDM which is a volunteer created index but your folks don't appear to have yet been transcribed.
They also have access to the full index from 1837, but this is only indexed by page by quarter, so you will need to search a number of pages to perhaps find your folks. The index only contains name age and where registered, so you will have to purchase the certificate to find any other information.
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectyp ... d/bmd.aspx
There is a Margaret died Sep Qtr 1912, aged 45 ref 8b 83
There is a Peter died Dec Qtr 1913 aged 70 ref 8b 78
Both registered Liverpool.
I do not think parents are recorded on English death certificates. You would probably have more luck tracking them backwards through the census. The 1901 Census should give birth location (for England, could simply say Scotland for Peter). The birth record will specify parents. You could also try to find them living with their parents in an earlier census. Thus said, I can't find them in 1901.
This seems to be what is on a death certificate
name, date and place of death
date and place of birth (please note: before 1969 a certificate only showed the age of the deceased)
occupation and usual address
cause of death
the person who gave the information for the death registration

Hello Trish
Thank you for all the info but what I for got to mention that they were in Scotland up to 1908 and moved to Liverpool somtime after then. What I need is the 1911 census but that is just a wish at the moment.
The Peter and Margaret you gave me looks to be right with the age gap. I have tried looking for Margaret in the census for England with no success. One census says she was born Stockton-on-Tees but the only birth I can find is for Newcastle-on-Tyne.
Many Thanks again.

Hello Rab and Jack
I have phoned Liverpool but they need to know the district which I dont know. I will have to send away for teh death certs.
As for the censuses they are in Scotland 1891 and 1901 and they married in England and I have the marriage cert for one of his wives. I cant find a birth for him to match the census ages.
1861 census give a different age and a different father.
I am going to send away for the other two marriages to find out what they say it will be interesting to find out. Pity I can't see the 1911 census.
