Seeking births, census pre 1881:

William Abson, b.c. 1843 Morley, Nr. Leeds, Yorkshire.
Father Edward, a Bookkeeper.

Emma Woodruff, b.c. 1843 Barnsley, York. Father Michael, a Weaver.

This couple married 1866 Barnsley, York.

They both died 1886 High St., Dodsworth, Barnsley, York.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks Tracey.
I am not subscribed to any English sites. SP own me.
I am currently waiting for arrival of some English certs., but so difficult to ascertain with not much info on them.
Trying to bring some branches to a close, and have been putting off the English lots.
I may give the site a go when I get back from holiday next week.

Hi Cathy

I've copped out of researching my English side for a while. Its a very expensive long wait for the wrong certificate to arrive and as you say with not much info included to further the research.

Enjoy your holiday

Hi Cathy - could these be yours?

On 1861 census :

Barnsley
Edward Abson, Head, 53, Dues Collector on Canal, born Yorkshire, Wakefield
Elizabeth Abson, Wife, 55 born Yorkshire, Woolley
William Abson, Son, 19 unmarried (no occupation listed) born Yorkshire, Gildersome
Elisabeth (initial I or J) 14 unmarried, born Yorkshire, Morley

I don't know if a Dues Collector on Canal could translate to "book-keeper"?

If you think that's your William, here they are again in 1871, married by now :

1871 Barnsley :
William, Head, married, 27, Butcher, born York Gildersome
Emma, Wife, 26 born York, Barnsley
Lavinia, Daur, 6 scholar, born York, Barnsley

Let me know what you think and I'll do some more digging.

Best wishes

Hi Pinkshoes,
1871 is definitely them. Not too many Lavinias around.
1861 looks good. I am waiting for b.cert. for William as I don't know name of his mother. Please keep digging if you have time.
Many, many thanks.

I think I've found Edward 1881

1881 census: Junction Lock, Dearne & Dove Canal, Barnsley, York.
Edward Abson, Head, Marr., age 73, Lock keeper (Inland Nav. Service)
b. Wakefield, York.
Elizabeth, Wife, 77, b. Woolley, York.

A possible marriage under Absom 1838, and possible deaths on freebmd.

I will order these certs. when I have more info, and feel confident its them.
