Looking for birth details of Mollie Spence b 1918 in
Lincolnshire.

I've had a trawl through the online indexes and there are no Mollies listed in 1918 in any quarter.

Even if there had been the only info available would be the reference numbers (Vol. and Page) with which to place an order for the certificate. There were several Mary's and Marion's and even a Madge.....

Without some further clues I don't know now you can narrow this one down. If the year is not exact you can always go and trawl through the indexes on your own. Ancestry lets you in for free for this!!....but like I said....you'll have to pay up to get the actual certificate!

Molly / Mollie is usually a pet name form of Mary.

Thank you Jean & Andrew.

I have found the death record (Hull England) which records her as Mollie Biglin died 1987 aged 69 . It gives her birth date as 19th November 1918.

Her marriage to Charles in 1938 also gives her name as Mollie.

I will have another look and see if anything else comes up. In the meantime thanks again for your help.

Armed with a birthdate the only recorded SPENCE births in the 4th Quarter of 1918 that might be possibles are

1. Marian E. in Leeds Mother's mn FEATHER Ref: 9b 505 (or might be 506 as the typewriter really needed to have the keys cleaned!!!)

2. Mary in Chorley Mother's mn STEPHENSON Ref: 8c 525

3. Mary J. E. in Lambeth Mother's mn HUTCHINS Ref: 1d 565? (again the type is filled!)

Soooooo.....narrowing up to the most likely prospect (due to proximity to Hull) of the three leads me to Number 1! ....but that is only a guess.........

This is not actually my family-I am looking at it for a friend who knows little or nothing of her family history.

HI Jean

Found out that Mollie Spene's father was Samuel James Spence. (according to her marriage certificate)

It seems that Mollie was adopted -probably the reason I can't find her birth.

Back to the drawing board
