Marriage lookup please .....

Post by ninatoo » Wed Jul 12, 2006 12:54 am

Hi all,

I am looking for a marriage for a Jane McLaughlin OR Inglis to a Kane between 1860-1870. I have not been able to find this marriage in Scotland, and I am now thinking it may have occurred elsewhere (if it DID occur at all!). I have tried FreeBMD with no luck, but I was wondering if anyone who has Ancestry could please do a search for me? As this is only lateral thinking on my part I have no clue to an area.

Also as an aside, a Jane McLaughlin or Inglis marriage to a John Cotterill about 1870 (he allegedly was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England aout 1842 - have never found his birth however). I do have a marriage for this pair (Cotterill/McLaughlin) in Scotland, but I am now having to think that it may be the wrong couple which muight be giving me this brick wall!

If I am on the right track it is more likely to be Jane Inglis marrying these two men, but a search for McLaughlin would also be appreciated.

Thanks for reading,

Nina

Hi Nina
It seems that most of the years between 1860-70 are covered by freebmd - the years which are not complete are 1860 & 1862.

It might be worth leaving it for a bit and trying again later as new records are being added all the time.

Best wishes

Hello Nina,

you can search all the BMD indexes 1837-2004 on Ancestry free of charge at present, although the indexing is bizarre. You will have to register with Ancestry but there is no pressure to buy a package.

John
