Hello Joyce
I spend a lot of time at no 240 Camberwell Road and i am trying very hard to remember what is either side and assume the hospital would be long gone as there are mostly tower blocks or flats there now, but.......i am reading (on and off ) a biography of Vera Brittain and i am almost sure i read that she worked at a hospital in Camberwell as it made me take more note of the book, spending so much time there myself.
Sorry its not much help but a google may return something before i dig the book out again ( its not exactly a light read
)
Should have said they are different roads but they do run parallel with each other

Hello Joyce
This may not be of much use to your search, but on reading your thread it came across my mind, yes it does work sometimes and not just fits of fancy either
Is it possible that because it was 1918 and at the end of the war that it was a big house that was used as a hospital to cope with the many wounded and dying who were brought back from the battlefields?

hi stewL
hi im not sure if he was in the war as you can see he was accountant ,i have his service number but is there any way i can find out if he did go to war but in 1918 he was 45 when he died so i think he was to old ,and how can i find out about the house he died in
why i thought it was hospital because it had his army details on also hes buried in the war cemetery he was buried in new southgate cemetery
regards joyce
ps forgot to say the army details were on his death cert so what would you make of it ,the regt was the 21st bn,london regt,first surrey riffles

I wonder if doing an address search on the 1901 census would give any clues ?
http://www.1901censusonline.com/search. ... =ad_search
I am never quite sure on how to fill this in as i always put what they ask but never get results even though i know the house i am looking for was there
Hopefully you will have more luck, assuming the house was there at the time
