Need some help and advice .....

Post by nmckenzie » Sat May 19, 2007 4:31 pm

I am an exiled Scot living in Norfolk England, i have been researching the family tree through Scotland's People, but as the records on the Scotlands People websites ends in 1906 for Births, 1931 for marriages, and 1956 for Deaths, i have come against a brick wall. I have exhausted family information, but Parents and Aunt's and Uncles are all dead, I am therefore finding it difficult to get information later than Scotlads peoples information.

How can i get information later than these dates, and how do i go about it.

Thanks & Regards

Neil

Hello Neil,

Welcome to Talking Scot! :D

Unfortunately, you would need to visit Edinburgh yourself to access more recent information or have a researcher do it for you.

If you chose to post info within the 'permissable' dates, you might find that someone will get back to you who share the same ancestors or know something about the families you are researching.

Another way (I can hear everybody groaning when I start on about graveyards), which might be a long way for a shortcut is to post a request for someone to find some of your ancestor's graves and if there turns out to be a stone, additional info can be got from that. You'd need to know dates and where they died etc. Alternatively, death notices in local newspapers can name umpteen family members.

Good Luck!

Anne

Problem I have is that i dont actually know the dates, just have a list of names I need information on. If i got Edinburgh, it there a facility to search for information based on names, locations, and rough dates?

Yes, you can search on the PCs at New Register House.

Hi Neil, and Welcome to TalkingScot!

In addition to the information supplied by Anne and Lesley, you can read further about visiting New Register House, as you may wish to reserve a spot ahead of your arrival.
