#-o The Cork connection aside, however, this one really looks more like the 1901 Clara

1881
Deptford St Paul, London
David Flynn, Head, 30, Laborer Unemployed, born Wapping
Clara M.A. Do, Wife, 24, House Keeper, born Deptford Kent
Thos Do, Son, 7, born Do Do
Clara M.A. Do, Daur, 5, born Do Do
David Do, Son, 3, born Do Do
Rosa Do, Daur, 10 Mo, born Do Do

In 1891 her brother says he was born in Rotherhithe

1891
66 Watergate St, Deptford, Greenwich, London
Clara Flynn, Head, Wid, 33, Laundress, born Deptford
Thomas Do, Son, 17, Corn Porter, born Rotherhithe
Clara Do, Daur, 15, Wood Chopper, born Deptford
Katie Do, Daur, 8, Scholar, born Deptford
John Do, Son, 4, born Deptford

FreeBMD indexes her birth as follows:

Name: Claraann? Flinn
Year: 1876
Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
District: Greenwich
County: Greater London, Kent, London
Volume: 1d
Page: 888

So it does begin to look like the marriage that Alan found is the correct one-- What evidence do you have that they didn't marry until after all the children were born?

Sarah

Hi SarahYour post no.1846 in the 1891 census has given me my great grandfather's generation AND my great grandfather's name - wonderful! I now have to put Cork on the back boiler and work back to it. The 1901 census info was also spot on - now we're getting somewhere - thank you so much for your help. Re 1881 census (David Flynn ) wee Clara could be my gt. gran. if so then I've also found gt.gt.granparents. Re Clara's marriage to George Henry Martin - I heard it from a cousin that they'd married after all the children were born, but when I don't know.Again, many thanks for all your help. Diana :D :D :D

Hi there, I,m still on the Flynn trail. This time it is Thomas Flynn and his wife Catherine Mahoney. The above David Flynn is their son. I can't see them in the London and home counties records so they may have gone north. By the way - I think this is the Irish connection. Thank you for any help - Diana :?:

Hi Diana,
I looked by at my old notes for this topic and found:

David Joseph Flynn married Clara Mary A Rees in the 4th quarter of 1872 in Greenwich District, Greater London

Clara Mary Ann Rees was born 3rd quarter 1856, District Greenwich, Vol 1d, Page 484

She is in the workhouse with her mother & sisters in 1861. The mother (Jane) says she is married, but no sign of her husband

In 1871 Clara is living with her sister Eliza

Does that help?
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Diana,
How did you find out who his parents were? Did you get the marriage cert or his birth cert? When, exactly, can't you find them-- or is it that you can't find them at all?

Best Wishes,
Sarah

Hi Sarah, yes, I did obtain David Flynn's birth certificate - here are the details: born 3rd Nov.1852 at 8 Churches Gardens. Father - Thomas Flynn, mother - Catherine Mahoney in the Reg.Dist. of St. George in the East. Since then I've found nothing as regards whether they had any more children or where they li ved. I guess it's a time and trawling. Thanks for your attention - Diana
