Indexing

Post by AnnieMack » Tue Mar 04, 2008 11:17 am

I did my lessons and first lot of indexing last night, was quite straight forward really. I have the indexing programme on my desktop as an icon and just click on that to get going.

That was my intention, but it is not appearing on my All Programs and can't find it to put on desktop.

I will have a look when I go home as what it saves itself as and see if you can track it down.

If I go into control; panel to add or remove programmes it is visible there as Family Search Indexing...just can't get it to appear elsewhere to let me save to desktop.

Search

Post by AnnieMack » Tue Mar 04, 2008 2:21 pm

If you do a search based on all files used on the date you received it you may be able to pin it down to its generic name.

Let me know and I'll find it this evening.

You can go to http://www.familysearchindexing.org/en/index.jsp and click the Start Indexing button to start up the application, which is actually a Java application. When you click that it downloads a file called iude.jnlp, so if you can find that in your downloads, put an alias/shortcut (or the actual file) of that onto the desktop and try using that to get started each time. (Works on my Macintoshes at least)

Cheers

If you go into Programmes and right-click then send to desktop that might do it!

I also took the plunge then clicked on the wrong button and downloaded the 1855 census for Wisconsin...unbelievably poor image quality...almost sent it back, but plodded on and submitted that.

Almost done with my first batch of Irish deaths...too bad I won't find any of my lot on these batches - not early enough dates :( but at least someone else will hopefully benefit :)

Anne H

The first one I did was from an Inuit area of Alaska and not only was the image quality "difficult", there was barely an "English" name on the whole page - yikes!!!!! I too soldiered on and completed it, but didn't take another one of them.

Fascinating languages up there, Roger! But a bit of a challenge to put into the English alphabet

Cheers,
