Once again my thanks to David, yes I will go with you with regards to the name `McGlone` does sound more feasible than McGlom! No what you mean about Oliver`s father born in Holland, very interesting, I am wondering, if it should be Ireland! another mystery to solve I guess.

Jean and Jack, thank you again for your input, and even taken the time to bother to read my message it is very kind of you both.

Andy thank you also, but I am confused again, oh my poor brain. I wonder if you could let me know where the information on Rosina came from? and could you let me know what Mar 34 means next to Rosina`s name?
With Rosina you mentioned a `John`. As far as I am aware `Oliver`s` name is `John Oliver` so that would explain that `John`. I didn`t know Rosina`s mother`s name, so that was very helpful.

On the census for 1861 you mentioned that Father, John, Oliver or Patrick were not mentioned. I have no information at all on a Patrick, would you be able to let me know, where he fitted into all of this.

I managed to see a copy of the 1871 census, and John Brown is Head of family, with Rosina his wife, and son Oliver. So I am now wondering if your Rosina McLon may even be another family, I would really welcome your thoughts on this, Thanks again
Kindest Regards

McGLONE is a well known Irish surname ..........

According to McLysaght's The Surnames of Ireland

"Mac Gloin, - Glone, -Gloon Mac Giolla Eoin (devotee of St. John). This name belongs to Tyrone and Donegal and is found also in Co. Leitrim; it is quite distinct ftom MacGlynn. In Fermanagh and Derry this, like MacAloon, has been absurdly changed to Monday, due to the similarity in sound of the word Luain, Monday. MIF."

I'm near certain that it was Holland, - have a look at the 1855 birth register entry concerned yourself to see if my old eyes were deceiving me, which is not unknown these "bus card" days :!: :-

Hi Malshie,

In 1861 the census for Port Glasgow has the following folk at Wood Street (Birkmyre's Land)

then from 1855

WM. JAMES BROWN

Event(s):
Birth:
20 JAN 1855 Port Glasgow, Renfrew, Scotland

Death:
Burial:

1871 has John Brown 60 carpenter born Holland

Oliver son 17 born Port Glasgow

Helen McGlone maiden name Keith died in 1867 in Woods Lane as reported by son-in-law John Brown.

John Brown and Rosina McGlone married in 1846 in Port Glasgow which prompted me to have a look in 1851 where they can be found at Wood Lane:

John Brown 45 ships carpenter born DENMARK
Rosina wife 26 born Ireland
Ann Daughter 2 born Port Glasgow
VISITOR Helen Malon (sic) should be McGlone 55 widow born Ireland
Visitor Margaret McHigg umm 35 born Ireland.

I know I found a Patrick somewhere but can't see him now.

Then John Oliver:

JOHN OLIVER BROWN

Birth:
23 MAY 1853 Port Glasgow, Renfrew, Scotland
Christening:

Caveat Emptor!

Rosina's death was reported by a close neighbour (but probably related Rosina's granny was an O'Neil) and DOESN'T name the parents correctly.

HOWEVER. There may be records available at St. John's church (opened in 1846)
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).
