Hi,
No luck with the names in Pomeroy Parish (or nearby) for your surnames of Daly and Grogan. It doesn't mean to say they were not resident there though!

An explanation of the Flax list from scripts.ireland.com

''1796: Spinning Wheel Premium Entitlement Lists

As part of a government scheme to encourage the linen trade, free spinning wheels or looms were granted to individuals planting a certain area of land with flax.

The lists of those entitled to the awards, covering almost 60,000 individuals, were published in 1796, and record only the names of the individuals and the civil parish in which they lived. The majority, were in Ulster, but some names appear from every county except Dublin and Wicklow. A microfiche index to the lists is available in the National Archives, and The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. ''

From the same site, the Catholic records in Pomeroy Parish started quite early.

She had a child called David, he appears to have been born in 1855 in Crichton, Midlothian. There were several children: John, Mary, David, Eliza Jane, William, Helen (or nellie) and Sarah.
What was the surname of David, born 1855?

David

Hi Elmca,

If you are trying to find a name in Ireland this site will give you Year of birth or christening, Marriages, census, GVand Tithe results for names in all counties or you can search a single county. As I do not no the first name only Daly it gave me for all counties 6314 B&C 1041 marriages and so on.

An update about the Daly family.

I have now found out that Bridget Daly came to Edinburgh, Scotland with her family, her parents Miles Daly & Mary (Grogan) her sister Mary, brothers Micheal/Miles?, John, & Peter.
Mary Grogan died in 1883 age 75.
Her parents were - Conston - I think! - it's not a name I have heard of but that's what it looks like. Anyway - Conston Grogan (a farmer) and Sarah Grier.
Miles Daly died in 1891 at the grand old age of 96 years. His parents were Patrick Daly and Mary McGarry.
The family were Roman Catholic and I found most of the missing info on Scotland People - Catholic records.
I also now know that they came from Ardcarn in Co. Roscommon, Ireland.
This information came from a birth on LDS - Ann (written as Annan) Daly born 12 July 1843 Ardcarn Roscommon. Parents Miles Daly and Mary Grogan (written as MilesII & Mariae) but she may have died as there is no further record of her.
