Post by gordie » Mon Aug 01, 2005 10:49 pm

Hi Folks,
My ggg grandfather was Oliver McaLeese a farmer married to Hannah McGill whom I believe lived in County Antrim.
I have two locations associated with the name :-

Hi Gordie

You did not give a date for Oliver McAleese, but some parts of the 1851 census for Co Antrim have survived.

You will find some extracts (including Rasharkin) at http://www.census-online.com/links/Ireland/Antrim/ There are a number of people with the name McAleese in that census, but I cannot see anyone called Oliver.

Hope this link might help concerning other members of the family.

Another point to bear in mind is that Loughguile has also been known as Loughgeelin the past.

Hi Rosey,
Thanks for the reply and the info, I'll follow it up. I gave the wrong name for Oliver's wife, it was Margaret not Hannah. Oliver had a son ( my gg grandfather ) who was also named Oliver born c1820 and he emigrated to Scotland to with other members of the family in the mid 1800's, presumably because of the potato famine, to W. Lothian County to work in the mines.
Thanks again.
All the best,
Gordie
