Hi, I'm new here and a granddaughter of Thomas McCormick (sometimes McCormack) born in Shettleston in 1887, his parents John McCormick and Roseann were from Northern Ireland (Belfast and Donochmore, respectively), I do have their marriage certificate and it does give their parents names Thomas's were Roderick McCormick (deceased) and Sarah Connelly ms Murphy and Roseann or Rose Ann's were James MacDonald (deceased) and Sarah Campbell ms (a name that I cannot read). The surname I cannot read looks like L*een, possibly Lueen. Given that Rose Ann was illiterate and would have spoken with an Irish accent, this could be an Irish name written literally by a Scot, does anyone have any ideas?
I know tracing back any of my family to Ireland will be difficult, and I don't expect to get far at all, but knowing this name would tie up an end. Thanks.

Re: Surname help
Hi Bid,
Can you upload the file where it shows the name L*een. Perhaps if we can see the document someone may be able to decipher for you. Meanwhile the Irish book of surnames has a few names Beginning with L and ending in een.....Laheen and Lunneen.

Re: Surname help
Hi Bid
Best wishes
Lesley
Quite possible that it was said as "Quinn" and it has been written as "Queen", so you may be right with the "variant thereof"!Queen it is then (or a variant thereof),
Best wishes

Re: Surname help
There is a marriage in Familysearch Ireland marriages 1619-1898 for a Sara Quin (widowed, aged 28, born 1837) to a John Campbell in 1865, so that possibly fits with Sarah above for her second marriage, worth looking at
