No trace of a Kelly – Kennison marriage 1845 – 1850 in the Irish civil indexes. (Civil registration for non RC marriages started in April 1845).

Kennison is a very uncommon name in Ireland. I can’t find any in the 1901 census at all and only 1 in the 1911:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/p ... gh/249392/

However, when I checked him in the 1901 census I see he is actually Harrison, and that it has been mistranscribed in the 1911.

So I would wonder about the accuracy of Kennison as the mother's maiden name.

I checked the Irish civil indexes again for the revised names but can find no trace of a marriage between William Kelly & Mary McGinnis 1845 – 1852. Prior to April 1845 you need to search church records but to do that effectively you need to know their exact denomination and ideally the parish where it took place. Protestant embraces many denominations eg Presbyterian, Church of Ireland, Methodist etc. Ideally we need to know which. Many of the church records are not on-line, but copies are held in PRONI in Belfast, if you can narrow the search area.

Did William & Mary have any children born in Scotland in 1855 or from 1861 onwards? If so, the date and place of their marriage should be recorded on the child’s birth certificate.

Did they ever claim under the Poor Law? If so, and if they lived in the Glasgow area, their file may be in the Mitchell Library, and often contains details of the claimants home parish in Ireland.
