The Brothers Quin .....

Post by angel » Mon Dec 05, 2005 2:54 pm

Hi

Can anyone help me with the births of Isaac and John Quin? Isaac was born about 1866 and John was born about 1867.

Their parents Andrew Quin and Annabella (there are variations on her name) Town(s)ley married in May 1864 Newtownards. Both Parents were born in Belfast.

Hello Andy

Thanks for the 1881 census but where did you get that last little gem of information and if this is their son then they have moved to another part of Ireland. Maybe John had a twin and the brother's were born in Comber an othe mystery to sove.

Hello Andy

I have never searched under Bella shea was known as Annie and on their daughters birth certificate she is down as Isabella. So there is a good chance that he is mine I wonder what happened to him he must have died.

Hi Heather,
Comber was a registration district in the greater Poor Law Union of Newtonards
Go to the following for a detailed description of how the Civil registration system worked. Click on links at side and generally browse this site.

http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/bro ... rds/state/

There is also another male birth in Comber to an Andrew Quin and Ann Townle, possibly Isaac. Underneath there is a little paragraph that explains that this is only where he was registered not neccessarily where he was born.(probably nearest reg.office).

It might be worthwhile sending for one of the birth certs and the marriage cert (if you have the year of marriage) if you wish to continue with this line.

Hello IanS

Many Thanks for all the information it gets me that little step closer and I now know where the family were registered. It loks like the children were born in Newtownards as looking at my map Comber would be the nearest registers office. I have bookmarked the site and I had a good look around there is lots of information on the site

I will have to send for one of the birth certificates and see what information is on it. I can only guess at the year of marriage going by when Isaac was born.
