Hi All,
I have been researching my family and found out that our name for reasons unknown was changed to Carrigan from Kerrigan in the 1901 census. I then traced back to my 2nd Great grandparents to their marriage in Cliffony Ahamlish County Sligo. But I cannot find where they lived it must be in the region of their marriage, or my 2nd great gandmother lived near there. What I hope someone can help me with find where they lived their names and date of marriage are as follows.
Patrick Kerrigan and Bridget McGowan married at Saint Molais RC Church Cliffony Ahamlish Sligo 12th Feb 1852.
So if anyone can help me find where they lived or knows where they lived as I have found out also my Great Grandfather came here to Scotland in 1880s along with his younger brother Patrick. Patrick settled in Govan and raised a large family none of whom I have been able to find. My grandfather married at St Joseph's Rc Church North Woodside Rd Glasgow 1883.
Thanking all in advance
udggy

Hi Hudggy, first of all a map, and the rest of this site is pretty good too.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlsli/index2.html.
The following is based on Patrick having his own place after 6 yrs of marriage, and not staying with ma and pa or the inlaws.
McGowans are plentiful in the Parish of Ahamlish. 56 head of households in 1858.
However the Corrigan/Kerrigans are not!! Only only 4 families, but no Patrick. (There is a Bridget Kerigan though, have you any idea when Patrick died?)
In the adjoining Parish of Drumcliff there are a 5 Kerrigan Families, one of which is a Patrick Kerrigan, in the Townland of Coolbeg. The rest of Kerrigans inc. another couple of Patricks are much further south. (only 30 families in the whole of Sligo)
If you have the parish entry, who were the witnesses? I see the marriage on the irishgenealogy.ie site.
oops, dodgy link above, will try to fix it. Right try this

Click on the 'Maps' link at left hand side. Then click the 1891 map.

Thanks
Hi IanS,
Thanks for the help but I have tried most of what you have said.As for Charles Marriage cert it only states his Parents names and not where they lived all I had was Ireland and from Glasgow census just Ireland. I managed to find the marriage of Patrick and Bridget by chance and I chap in America who was researching Kerrigans in Ahamlish and Drumcliff gave me the full information on the marriage the witness are
Thomas Moore and Mary Fehily he also gave me the birth of their first born Denis 1853 christened at Cliffony Ahamlish Sligo. The Kerrigans at Ahamlish and Drumcliff are of the same family but I cannot find where Patrick and Bridget lived as the Griffiths Valuations only give head of household.

Hi again, if you don't feel the Patrick in Cloonbeg, Drumcliff is yours (from above) he may be staying with his own father or her parents, thus would not be head of household.
However I mentioned earlier 4 Kerigan(sp) in Ahamlish, there is a Denis Kerigan living in a townland called Drumfad- could Patrick have named his first born after his father?? (who was more than likely to be still living at this time). This could have been the father of Patrick who married Bridget McGowan.
In the same townland of Drumfad, there is a Thomas Moore 11 households away from Denis. Also a Mcgowan Household 9 doors from Denis.

Looks Good
Hi IanS,
I think you maybe on to something here I was always thinking that Patrick would have his own place. As you have laid it out he may have lived with his father and taken over from him later as it say farmer on my great grandfather Charles death certificate. Is there any way to see if later who took over the household after Denis.
I have looked on the net and there in Grange a Hugh Kerigan in the family here in Glasgow there was the two brothers Charles and Patrick my g Grandfather and his younger brother both had a son called Hugh this also could be a possiblity as names tend to be handed down, but with Thomas Moore near by in Drumfad it makes me lean to your way of looking at it.
Thanks again Robert

hi Robert,
You could try this site and ask them for a quote for what you want.
http://www.valoff.ie/Research.htm
But this just might be the time to call in a researcher who could maybe do the Parish records and the land leases. Wouldn't do any harm to ask DWW. for his Irish researchers e-mail address for a quote.
This could get complicated, as technically up to 4 generations of the same family could be on G.V. 20, 40, 60, 80, yrs of age. it's trying to figure out who's who
A man/woman 'on-site' so to speak, could possibly do the various land leases for Denis, Hugh and Bridget in Ahamlish. AND Bryan, John , Patrick and Thomas in Drumcliff!! OR even just tell you what is or is not feasible.
Good Luck

Hi IanS,
I will try what you suggested and see what they come up with. By the way how do you get the household numbers IE: 11 houses down and 9 houses down.
Thanks again IanS for all your help
Regards Robert

Hi Robert, it's not really household no's but the no's given to the piece of land ( with or without houses) the occupier rented (or owned). It was mostly done in a neighbourly fashion as in No.1 would be next to No.2. but not always, especially in the country areas!!
I'll send you a copy of Denis G.V. later on tonight, the no's on the page will have corresponding maps,(various ones over the years, and some better and clearer than others) and this is basically what the valuation office will use.
