Hello folks
I think this is news...at least couldn't find a mention under a search for it!
This link:
http://www.belfastfamilyhistory.com/
is for an indexing of the West Belfast area only Census of 1911...but in search results I'm getting 1901 info as well. Not sure if the site is completely done as I'm also getting a distorted main page that is difficult to read. Not sure if that is my fault or the websites!! Any rate...it's well worth a look if you have family from this area!
Best wishes
Jean

Excellent site I hadn't appreciated that the Irish 1911 would be aviable before the rest of the UK.!
Maybe we should agitate at the Scottish Parliment for early release of the Scottish 1911.

Aye weel !!
It needs to be understood that the release of the Irish 1911 census in less than the now standard 100 year closure period in the UK is on the basis that Irish censuses prior to 1901 are not available because they were destroyed by the government of the day at the time, or later for various reasons, or lost through the fact that the arvhives involved were used as an ammunition store during the "struggle" in the early 1920s when a very bad fire developed in the building concerned in Dublin.
In other words, given the fact that no information is available from any Irish censuses prior to 1901, it was decided by the UK and Irish governments to make the 1911 census details available earlier than 2012.
It is most unlikely that the 1911 census details for England, Wales, and Scotland will be released before 1st January 2012 ...............
