Hi,
I'm totally new to both the subject and the site. Hello everyone.
I'm looking for some help tracing my ancestors.
I've got a date and place of marriage but can't find any record of the marriage or births of participants.
Marriage took place in Cork. Catherine Finlay (although the name has been registered as Findley, Findlay as well). Marriage Date 19th November 1890.
Catherine was born in Dublin. Died on 13/5/1947 in Glasgow. Either married or lived with an andrew Neil McDonald after Angus died.
Got married to Angus Cameron who was born in England (Chatam was down in 1901 census). He died on 22/9/1925 in Glasgow. His father was a soldier.
Can anyone tell me how to trace this marriage. I got the information from the children's birth certificates.
Both lived in Glasgow.
All advice welcome!!!

Hi Chrisy
I'll need to leave you in the hands of someone who knows more about Irish records, but just wanted to say hello and welcome to Talking Scot!
Best wishes

Sorry I can't help either but didn't want you to think no-one was bothering. I think we all struggle to find anything out about our Irish ancestors. I hope someone responds to your request. I wish the Irish would start a site like Scotland's People. They must know the interest there is world wide.

Hi Chrisy,
Irish records can be very difficult as I know to my cost and I mean financial.
The best is to visit the General Register Office in Dublin but failing that you would need a good researcher.
the site address http://www.groireland.ie/ gives a lot of good information and they can put you in touch with a local researcher that knows their way round the records.
The other thing to warn you is don't expect too much, a lot of records were lost and the information is not as nearly detailed as our own.
Hope this helps

Hi Drew,
Thanks for the advice - I've downloaded a form to get a copy of the marriage certificate which should give me some more info.
Regards
Chris
