Advice needed please on looking for N. Ireland connections..

Post by Morag Mac » Sun Apr 16, 2006 9:28 pm

Hi folks, Northern Ireland search novice here. This is my first post and would be glad of any help & advice in my search for my father's G.parents & g grandparents.

The family name is Turner. My Dad (Edward) and one of his brothers (Robert) were born in Scotland in 1923 & 1921. The other two brothers (William and James) were born in Ballyclare N Ireland in 1917 & 1914. Their Mother Mary Wilson, b:13/5/1893 in Kildrum, Connor, married James Turner (b 1884) 21/2/1914 in Ballyclare. It was the second marriage for him. As far as I know there were two children from the first marriage (neither of them survived).

James' father was David Turner who married Nancy Wilson (daughter of James Wilson and Martha Eagleson). James had one known brother and two known sisters.

David was the only known child of Samuel Turner (b 1804 in Ballyalbanagh, nr Ballyeaston) d 1861) and his second wife whose name I don't know. Samuel Turner was a school teacher.

James and family came to the west of Scotland in the early 1900s and for a time he worked in the bleachfields at Howwood, Renfrewshire. Around the time of WW1 I believe he went back to Ireland and may have served in the RIR.

I would like to be able to find out more about these people. This is the only information I have. I don't have any other dates or information. Can anyone suggest places I might search? All help gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation ....
Co Antrim & Belfast: Turner, Wilson, Agnew, Eagleson
Fife: Nicolson, Cornfoot, Chalmers/Chambers, Laing, Lindsay, Duff, Pearson, Morton, Russell, Easson
Aberdeen: Haliburton, Lindsay
Perthshire: Ross
