Donations .....

Post by CathieL » Mon Aug 07, 2006 11:36 pm

I have finally found the church in Aughnacloy Co. Tyrone where my grandfather may have been christened. I have been advised to write to the parish priest and enclose a small donation. Can anyone suggest how much the donation should be and would US dollars be okay. I do have some British pounds I could use.

Hi Cathy,

I wrote to Greenlough Parish Church in Londonderry and asked if they could tell me if my great grandmother had been baptized there. They not only gave me her date of baptism but also the info on her six brothers and sisters, two that I didn't know existed. They never asked for any money. I did make a request of them a second time and this time I sent a $100 donation. Got a nice thank you note back from them.

I thought the amount of info they sent me was well worth the donation.

The banks in Ireland will cash US checks.

Hi Ina
Thank you for that. I just finished my letter to Ireland and I will mail it in the morning. Here's hoping I have the right church, but then again, nothing venture nothing gain and I am determined to find this elusive man.
Regards, Cathie

Good luck Cathie. Hope it works out as well for you as it did for me.

In my case I got lucky, one of her children's birth records told me where they were married. I took a chance that she was also baptized there.
