Craig Family, Please Help! .....

Post by andrewcraig74 » Tue Apr 12, 2005 11:03 pm

I am trying desperately to find emigration (or ANY) information on Thomas Craig, Born Dec. 25th, 1865. The Westen Canadian Craig's have been extremely difficult to trace. The only information I have is his wife's name (Christian Grant Hynes), and their son's information, which is Noble John Craig, Born 17 July, 1906, Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. Died 04 March, 1983. Any suggestions or leads would be appreciated

Andrew

No trace of a marriage in Scotland.............

Born on 25th Dec 1865 it's possible that the birth was registered in 1866, but using http://www.familysearch.org/, there isn't a birth on that exact date of a Thomas CRAIG for the period 1860 to 1870 in Scotland.......... nor, for that matter, England or Ireland for 1865/66. Could it have been a baptism date?

Hi

You probably have this already but Thomas is to be found on the 1901 census at Pinchers Creek via http://automatedgenealogy.com/ . The original image confirms the d.o.b. and country of birth and additionally gives the year of immigration as 1874 , occupation rancher ? and religion Methodist I think.

The only match I saw in terms of age/ origins in the 1881 Canadian census was the one in this house - in Manitoba though

Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation Religion
George L. FIRESTINO M Male German 29 O <Ontario> Barber Weslyan Methodist
Maggie FIRESTINO M Female Irish 29 Ireland Weslyan Methodist
Thos. H. CRAIG Male Irish 16 Ireland Clerk Weslyan Methodist
John PETTIGREW Male Scottish 20 Scotland Farmer Presbyterian

Hi All,

This might be the Irish born Thomas, but the Thomas in 1901 says Scottish.

Hi All

Andrew has PM'd me to the effect that Dec. 25, 1852 is the confirmed birthday for Thomas, and that he was born in Ballymote, Ireland. Andrew hasn't been able to find anything else, but knows he was a Methodist, so there should be records SOMEWHERE.

Any suggestions anyone?

Hi Davie and Andrew, Any suggestions? Well-STOAP!!! REVERSE!! Too many details from submitted entries here and changing of details.

Andrew, Is Noble in your direct line and do you have his birth cert?

Parents names on birth cert? Marriage cert?

Also have you seen the 1881 entry on Family search 1881 Canadian census for another Noble craig with big brother Thomas?

There is also a Noble Craig in G.V. for Sligo- he's the only one in the whole of Ireland on G.V.

Andrew, Try this site for contact details for Methodist churches, and background info. in the probable area of interest. (scroll down)

http://www.irishmethodist.org/where/lakelands.htm

Will send you the G.V. entry for the Noble Craig by e-mail. No proof he's one of yours, (i.e. Thomas father, uncle, grandfather, cousin etc.) but handy for future ref.
