Irish family history help .....

Post by Isadora » Fri Oct 13, 2006 4:04 pm

A bit stuck as to how I can look back further, any suggestions welcomed. To give you what I have to start:

James Grant married in 1868 (a carpet weaver aged 25) in Old Machar Aberdeen, Helen Grant maiden surname: Farrell. She was 24 years old and a mill operative.

James's parents were Alexander Grant, a weaver who was deceased at the time of his son's wedding and Mary Ann Divine (?) maiden surname DOYLE.

Helen's parents were John Farrell a mason's labourer and Bridget maiden surname Curran. Bridget died I think on November 22nd 1865 from chronic bronchitis.

Bridget's parents were Patrick Curran deceased by 186 and Brigget Curran maiden surname McCabe.

Any suggestions as how to fill in gaps/go back further.

Were both the Farrell and Grant families originally from Ireland and moved to Aberdeen/Scotland? Frustratingly I have lost track of this part of my tree and am confused as to how I can clarify things.

Any suggestions gratefull received. I am pretty sure Helen Grant ms Farrell was born in Ireland. Not sure about the Grant family?

Have you tried looking them up in the censuses?

If you are REEEEAAAlly lucky, they might even have given where in Ireland they were born.

First stop should be at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

It's a pay to view site but the info is second to none.

Good Luck. :D

Try contacting Sp using their contact form and explain about the image problem. (Go through the contact options and choose unreadable image)They might be able to assist.
