Rogers, near Wrexham. Bersham, Brymbo, Minera

Post by littlealison » Wed Jan 07, 2015 2:55 pm

John Rogers married Susannah (?Tudor) in 1792, in - I think - Brymbo.

Had a son Jeremiah Tudor (not 'Judor') born in 1803, Bersham - my greatgrandfather.

WANTED - who is Katurah or Katrina Rogers, witness to John and Susannah's wedding, (some relation I think!) who married Benjamin Senior, also a witness, in 1829?
Also any other children of John and Susannah.
Researching:
LITTLE - Scotland, Lancashire, Dublin and South Africa. And Canada.
RITCHIE, BARR - Scotland
ANDREWS, MEMERY, DOWSE and BIRMINGHAM - Dublin
PRICE, JACKSON, ROGERS, ALLEN - N. Wales

From the Family search transcription, Susannah's surname was Tucker (may/may not be correct) - place Brymbo, Denbighshire, Wales
Cannot find any baptism records from Brymbo - there is a burial for a Jeremiah Rogers in Brymbo 4 Oct 1861 - is this where you found his approx birth year?

Hello Trish.
Birth 17 Nov. 1803. Found on findmypast (Xmas present from my sister!) the original shows that the name is Tudor not 'Judor'. And the same is true of 'Tucker' on that original.
The Tudor name was passed down in the family - and another on Ancestry - later.

The marriage record original of Jeremiah and Martha is a bit odd - but I took it and other evidence to my family history group last week, presenting it as a puzzle, and the general opinion was that it was Jeremiah Tudor Rogers even though it is signed Jeremiah Tudor.

I still am looking for Keturah whose name is Katrina on this record - but she signed with an X.
Since she married the other witness two years later, she seems much the same age.
A sister?

I'm not much help - sorry littlealison - I can find nothing on family search & don't have access to FMP. Seems likely that the witness is a sister - she gives her birthplace as wrexham in 1861 Age 52 - I gather you haven't found a baptism? England/wales birth/marriage/death records contain minimal information compared to most other places. Do you know when John or Susannah died? Perhaps a will could exist to link some of the family together.

No, no baptism for Keturah.
The only death I can find for Susannah is 1849....and wills accessible start in 1858......
And there are so many John Rogers that that's impossible!

Ah well, wait a bit and more records come online...maybe.

The earlier wills - and largely needing a "translator" are at the national archives - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/reco ... re1858.htm - and at that site (which always gives me trouble) I find the ones for Wales are at the National archives of Wales - duh!

http://www.llgc.org.uk/visit/family-his ... d-probate/ - does not solve the name problem :( - leads to the national library of Wales - there are 712 wills for people called Rogers in 1849 but it can be restricted by location and occupation

Thanks Trish.
This might get somewhere but it will take a while!
So far I have located a Thomas Rogers related to a John, but no details. However he is in the right place and that tells me to look at St Asaph records.
I will pass this on to some of my family history group too. - Alison
