Researching the Hughes name
Samuel Hughes born Mold 1854 looking for parents and siblings

The only Mold that I can find in the UK is in Flintshire, altho' there is also one in Austria.

IGI doesn't show anything in Scotland that matches 1854, but be aware that in urban areas, less than 50% of births were recorded in the decades leading up to the introduction of statutory recording in 1855 in Scotland.

IGI does have an 1854 birth in Howerden, Flintshire.

There's a Mauld about 12 miles west of Inverness. A Mallwyd in Gwynedd that would sound just about the same.

Hawarden is only about 5 miles from Mold, Flintshire. Hawarden was the registration district for Mold, Buckley and a few other parishes before they all registered under the County of Flint in 1903.

So Samuel in Hawarden is looking pretty good.

the marriage certificate will show only the father's name for bride and groom. However, since you are confident about his date of birth, you can contact ONS or the local register office, specify the month of birth and father's name, and they will send a certificate (and cash your money) only if there is a match.

I lived in the area (Ewloe, 1 mile north of Hawarden and 4 east of Mold) for 7 years, and I know the area well. The Hawarden registration district started (not ended) in 1903, and the places that are mentioned come under the Holywell district. Grernaffield should be Gwernaffield, which is up a big hill to the west of Mold. (Mold Golf Club is there, and you are forever playing blind shots over hills).

Miscellaneous help to strangers: Holywell is pronounced Hollywell, and Hawarden is pronounced Harden.

Hello,

I was raised in Mold and lived there for 23 years.Then made the huge move to Sychdyn,could be found and spelt as Soughton...then to Aus.

Just a point about Bistree.......should be spelt Bistre,.....and any births in Denbigh were registered in St.Asaph.
A lot of marriages for Flintshire (Mold & surrounds e.g. Loggerheads,Gwernaffield etc.)were registered in Holywell.
