It's not cheap - £6.99 for 24 hours and 100 views or £9.99 for 7 days/200 views.

Hello Lindsay

This is very good news and has been a long time coming.

It is expensive to access the actual page images but the search is free and snippets of each article found can be viewed as part of the free search. There’s probably enough in the snippet to give you a reasonable idea of whether it’s the article you’re seeking.

In other words it would be silly to jump in and pay the money and start the search. The right idea would be to search for every conceivable name and event and place etc you’re interested in or ever likely to be, take a careful note of what you’ve found, the search terms used and the article date etc and only pay the cash when you know exactly what articles you want and how to find them again. Otherwise use the mark and bookmark facility. Doing it this way it can be very good value, especially if you’ve found 100.

If you want to search in Scottish newspapers there are only three, Glasgow Herald, Aberdeen Journal and Caledonian Mercury. By going to Advanced Search you can select exactly which period and newspapers you want to search. There are search tips as well.

Everyone should give it a try, search for something and click on the thumbnails in the results to see what I mean. If you’re unsure about how things work ask a question on the forum. If you think you’ve found some thing but aren’t sure you could ask for a second opinion.

Newspaper information is the icing on the genealogical cake and the cream in the middle.

All the best,
Alan

Just a tip I've found useful for newspaper searches.

Before you hit download to save the article to your PC, highlight and copy the name date of the newpaper it came from, then paste it into the 'file name' section that comes up in the 'save as' box with a small keyword or phrase to remind you of who or what the article is about. Makes it so much easier when you're looking back if you're lucky enough to find a lot of articles.
