You’ll find a beautifully clear image on Record Search at http://labs.familysearch.org/
Someone has written hieroglyphics over all the household heads but I would say it’s definitely Andrew. Whoever wrote the name has an aversion to putting loops in his e’s.

Packman Andrew, Head, White, Male, b. Jan 1852, 48yrs, Married, for 10yrs, b. Scotland, both parents b. Scotland, yr of immigration 1883, 17yrs in US, “Na”, Shipping Clerk, can read & write & speak English & rents his house.

Packman Katie, Wife, White, Female, b. Aug 1855, 44yrs, Married, for 10yrs, no kids, b. New York, both parents b. Ireland, read write & English.

WOW! What a difference! Easy to tell what it says now, Ellen! :) I had tried on and off and couldn't come up with much more than it was probably Andrew...but not a whole lot more!

Thanks for putting that link up, Alan. I'll have to see what else is on there!

Regards,
Anne H

There’s some great stuff there Anne, it’s really snowballing.

And Ellen there are some articles concerning Mr Packman in the Aberdeen Weekly Journal, February 12, 1878, February 22, 1878, May 27, 1878 and possibly others. Just in case you haven’t seen the freebee “19th Century British Library Newspapers” at http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 49&start=0

Aye well......... thanks again for that Alan, the couple of hours has turned into over 3 hours already, I've only just lifted my head out of the newspapers. Must go and get into the outside world again.

Seriously though, thanks for the links, they'll keep me busy for a while!

Cheers

Ellen.
