Good Morning Ann,

I thought you'd be pleased with those results :) and I'm not finished yet. But the rest will have to wait until tonight when I have the time to scan, the map of the cemetery and Jane's death notice.

Yes those old victorian homes were all wood and the inside of them were beautiful craftmanship. Most of them have been torn down to expand our main hospital "Rhode Island Hospital" But none the less, some still remain and the wood was covered over with Vinyl siding (so the owners don't need to paint them every few years) My own g gf, John Morning lived in that style house, until 1950 when he moved in with his youngest daughter in the country.

I need to get moving along, big day here in the US, we're voting for our new President....

Just a little more trivia before I sign off

You said Jane lived on Hope Street in Bristol. Well then she most likely had a front row seat to the Bristol 4th of July Parade. Lucky her!

Rhode Island is a beautiful little state, we are the smallest state in the United States and you can drive through it in abt. 45 minutes. Our nickname is the "Ocean State" and we have some of the prettiest beaches around.

Enjoy you day
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,

I am now at the "cant see clearly stage" too long at the computer I think, but I can see why she wanted to stay there, it really is a beautiful place, I found lots of photographs of the whole of Rhode Island, and read quite a bit about your 4th July parade, that must be something really special by the looks of it!!
She definately would have had a great view, I googled the street and the house was right at the waters edge, how lovely!
It's got quite a bit of history hasn't it, well must get tea on and rest my eyes.
Forgot about the voting today, its been on our news quite a bit, hope it goes well.

Every year my mother, two sisters and I get up at the crack of dawn to drive over to Bristol for the parade. They close the road off at 8am so you need to get there early. We always get a front row seat at the tip of this blue line. There's always a Police officer stationed there to direct traffic and we bring him hot cups of coffee.
In exchange, he won't allow anyone to block our view.....l :P

We have some lovely history here in Rhode Island, Ann.

Edgar Allen Poe was engaged to Sarah Whitman of Providence, RI

September 21: Poe travels to Providence, RI, to meet Mrs. Sarah Helen Whitman to whom he makes a proposal of marriage.
November: another journey to Providence for the same reason, then proceeds to Boston where he tries to commit suicide.
December 20: Poe lectures in Providence.
December 22: a marriage agreement is drawn up, the wedding is to take place a few days later, but the engagement is broken off.

Seems as though there was an issue over taking some pictures at HP Lovecraft's grave at Swan Point.
One reply mentions a permit needed to take a pic? This would be a first....
mr. morning told me tonight that guard dogs patrol Swan Point at night, sounds like tight security to me.

Off now to scan those documents to you and then rest my eyes. 8)

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you for the scans, we are all delighted with what you have found!! :D It makes it all the more real for us.
Sounds like they take the security at Swan Point very serious  Maybe thats why it looks so good, scary stuff though!
I feel like I have been there now, its my kind of place, not too big and with water all around, and, its kept lots of charm :)

I'm off to do some painting, all these wonderful houses and colours have given me inspiration :)

Thanks again
Ann

Hi Ann

On my way to Massachusetts today, I stopped by Swan Point Cemetery to try and find your gg aunt Jane. Well I didn't find her grave this time, lots of leaves on the ground covering the flat stones and I didn't find a stand up stone, yet. But here is a picture of the section that she's buried in on Forest Street. Wow what an impressive cemetery! I've never never never seen a cemetery that had such beautiful stones. Gosh some of them had to cost tens of thousand of dollars/pounds. There was a beautiful pink jewel one with a name plate drilled deep into the stone.

Hi Marilyn,

What a beautiful picture, thank you for going to the trouble of looking, It looks like quite a big place, pink jewels too :!: :o , there must be quite a few well to do people buried there. I certainly haven't seen one quite as well kept, it just looks like a forrest walk :!:
I bet she is tucked away in a wee corner somewhere, nice to know she is in such a peaceful place.

Thanks
Ann

Ann,

I plan another visit, but this time I'll go when the office is open and they'll take me to the stone. :D Jane is buried in a very peaceful resting place thats for sure. All those trees you see in this pic, have name plates on em to indentify what type of tree they are. Oh and I'll get a pic of that pink jewel stone on my next visit. :)

Regards
Marilyn

Hi Ann

Great News, I found your Jane! At lunchtime today I had to drive into Providence to pick up my
tickets for the play,A Christmas Carol. Sooo on my way back I took the long way around and before I knew it, I was back at Swan Point Cemetery.

So I stopped by the office and a nice gentlemen, Bill handed me a map and took me right over to her
Gravesite. He bent down to dust off the leaves from the flat stone and asked me for the map
back. Before I was able to comprehend the situation, Bill pulled out his note pad to make a notation
Of Jane’s missing number and said he would get that replaced right away. I was so dumbfounded
That I just shook my head in agreement, as if Jane was my long lost relative. Her date of death
Now reads 1 74. The lettering on Jane’s flat stone is slightly raised and not carved into the stone. It didn’t appear to be glued on and there are no identifying marks of a screw hole, so I’m not sure what happened?
The stone appears to be turning a slight greenish color, which I think maybe due to the lime, content in the stone? But overall its in very good condition and she’s buried in a very peaceful area of the cemetery right
Beyond the entrance. As I walked away from her grave today, I wondered to myself how long has it been since someone was there to visit? Next Spring I’ll go back to make sure Bill took care of the missing number. Assure your family that Jane’s site is being well taken care of and will be for years to come by Swan Point.

Bill and I chatted for a few minutes and before he jumped back into his vehicle, I had to ask “So how much
Does it cost to be buried here at Swan Point?” Without skipping a beat, he replied back $5,500 for two people and then handed me his business card and said “Call me when you’re ready to purchase a plot” OK I thought to myself , maybe in like another 40 + years……….. :- :- :- :- :) [-o< :-k   [sigh] [help] [5 cups]

Here’s the picture of the pink quartz stone that I’m looking down on. I didn’t want to take a picture of the face
Because the date is too recent. Every tree at Swan Point is labeled just as this picture is. How great is that, can't tell ya how many times in my liftime that I've wonderedto myself, what type of tree I was looking at? this last picture is of the entrance to Swan Point Cemetery. Its really a beautiful and well oiled cemetery. Maybe I should start saving my pennies?

Hi Marilyn,

What can I say! a big thank you to you for all this :D The pictures are wonderful, wow! 5,500  for a burial, I would have went into shock when the guy said that
I thought the very same thing, I wonder if anyone ever did visit her grave, I dont think there were any children from either Jane or her husband, and Jane had no relatives over there, but it looks like Swan Point take good care of everything. Its so good to know that.
I think thats a brilliant idea naming the trees, you could almost have a day out in the cemetery and learn from it :)
I am so happy today, only two weeks ago I found out she had gone to Rhode island, never expecting to find much about her, and here I am looking at photos of her stone, all thanks to you :D \:D/

Many thanks
Ann
