Hi Marilyn, dinna fash yersel!

I´ve so many other distractions mainly work orientated at present, that the days just slip by without me noticing; it is however a great feeling to know of someone out there looking after one´s interests.
I´m not generally known as an optimist, but the number of Mclean DCs that turned out to be irrelevant earlier in this thread still amazes me.......... :?

Plenty scope there for further searching.

Guid hunting,

Thrall

Hi Thrall,

What are we going to do with your Mcleans in Massachusetts? I spent an hour today at the Massachusetts Archives (had other business to attend to in Boston ,so my time researching was limited) I took a look at BJ's suggestion of a few weeks ago
This one might be worth a closer look:
Vol: 465 ; Page: 267
d. July 5 1896, recorded at Boston, Charles McLane, 74, d. at City Hospital, 46 Lawrence St, occ. plasterer, b. Scotland

The Internet and Soundex - two of this genealogist's favorite inventions!

Hi Marilyn, and thank you again for all your time and trouble. They don´t seem to be an easy bunch to find, my Mcleans.
Perhaps when things are a little quieter, I will make another attempt to sort them out. The easiest way would be probably to find the DC for James McLean, tailor, in New Hampshire, which I hope would have his parents´names.

Anyway, much obliged; still no requests for Icelandic look ups?

Regards,

Thrall

Hi Thrall,

Now I'm treading on thin ice here  I have -0- experience with the Vital Records of New Hampshire (Although its my favorite state here in New England and I call it my home away from home because I have spent many an hour on the ski slopes of NH, my favorite ski area is Bretton Woods, located across from Mount Washington. Do a google on MW and you'll find it has some of the wildest weather on earth  ) My Morning family first show up in New York then Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Here in the US, we're fast approaching a major holiday with Thanksgiving next Thursday. But I'll try to find out what is required to obtain some info on James the Tailor in the next week or so?

If all else fails, don't worry I have a Plan B

Regards
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, and thanks for the update.
I had a quick look at today´s weather on Mount Washington (which looked pretty fresh) and seemed even to rival Iceland´s excesses!

Have a good Thanksgiving,

Thrall

Hi Thrall,

Mt. Washington is wild and oh so beautiful.

I called the Town Clerk in Meredith, New Hampshire today and I didn't get very far with her. :? She tried to be helpful, by directing me to the office of Vital Records. In the State of New Hampshire ,you need to be a direct relative of the person you're searching for (I don't know how you would prove this, other then your word?) The Vital Records Office will do a search for you and the cost is $12 US (which is a steal in today's market value of the $ :D ) So my advice is to switch to Plan B, before you fork over the $.

Plan B is to contact RAOGK in the State of New Hampshire. I've listed the links below. This is a volunteer organization and it appears from their site, that Ruth Turner is the woman you need to contact to request a look up for Vital Records.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hi Thrall,

As promised, The Massachusetts Archives, have added the Marriage indexes up to 1915. The years 1910-1915 are not available on-line.

Not sure if you had this information. Still unable to view online, but for $3.00 you can send for a certified copy.

McLean Mary Jane (Twin) Boston 1848-49 V 36 Pg 255

Registry of Vital Records and Statistics
150 Mount Vernon Street, 1st floor
Dorchester, MA 02125-3105
(617) 740-2600
Fax: (617) 825-7755

Also, in 1861 Charles lived on 136 Tyler (St. ?) in Boston.
In 1879 he is still in Boston at 281 Shawmut (boards there).
In 1884 he is on 31 Tyler St.
In 1890 he appears to be on Pleasant Street

Not sure if this is helpful, but thought I'd try. Linda
