\:D/ Thanks to Carol, I have finally figured out that I needed to "Try out the new search" on Ancestry in order to have the search terms highlighted in the newspapers. Wow! What a difference!

I'm off to look up all those newspaper hits on my ancestors that were too tedious to search before... see you next year! :D

Sarah

P.S. Marilyn, sorry to hijack your topic... I'll be quiet now

Marilyn,

I'm sure you can get a better copy if you can find the original at the Lowell Library, but any picture is a real find! I'll put together a list of dates for the Lowell Sun for you so if you do get a chance to stop at the library you won't have to read every newspaper! It will be a few days though. I'm headed out to my quilting quild meeting today.

Sarah,

I've never really figured out the Ancestry search systems. They aren't consistent and trying to get back to something that you found once is often a real chore. Keeps us on our toes I guess!

Hi Carol,

Wow is all I can say! Well not really but
The dates will save me sooo much time scrolling through those newspapers. Thanks a million. Sadly, Warren's daughter passed a few years ago and before I began this research, then her husband moved out West somewhere? Now a part of Warren will live on, thanks to you.....

Hi Sarah,

No problem what so ever......

Hi Rae,

You're so right, it does make a world of difference. Truly, a picture is worth a thousand words. Now if only I could find a picture of my gg gf, Matthew Morning....

Thanks again everyone
Marilyn

Marilyn,

Warren was a well rounded jock. He was also on a bowling league. Found an article with picture from a banquet! Looks pretty much like he did when he was diving in 1937. I'll send this on later this morning. I have a Dr.'s appt. at 8 o'clock CT so I have to get moving now. Also, there are two brief golfing articles, no pictures. I can send those if you want or you can look them up at the library.

Marilyn,

Just sent off the bowling banquet picture. I looked up Raymond Longtin also. Only two articles for him. He attended a reception for a Notre Dame graduate student nurse in 1938 and in 1944 he was being sued for $10,000 in damages by a couple who's car he ran into in 1942.

The problem with newspapers of course is that you start reading all those other articles and I love the ads!

Hi Carol,

Yet another great picture of him! I can't really explain how I'm feeling at the moment looking him in the eye, well he has two eyes

Its almost a spooky feeling actually. A few nights ago, I was ready to move forward without a picture and now I have two, thanks to you and your fortitude. Its like Warren is reaching out from the grave and yelling HELLO there's plenty of pictures of me in the Lowell Sun, if you had just taken the time to look for them. Thank you so much, Carol!

If you have the articles saved and have time to send them, feel free. If not then please send me the dates and pages numbers. I plan to pass through Lowell next weekend, depending on the weather :D Its leaf peeping time here in New England, but I'm not going if its raining. There is nothing worst then being stuck in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the rain.

Thanks again
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,

Glad to help when I can! I'm sort of at a standstill right now waiting on the results of some fancy footwork by my sister with our Finnish relatives. She just connected with the grandchild of our grandmother's cousin, but it's the brother and sister of this grandchild who have all the family info. so rather than sit here biting my nails, I'm working on your relatives!

I have the draft of the list of the dates for newspaper articles done. I'll send it along as soon as I touch it up. Just found a funeral notice which lists Walter Longtin as a member of the Elks delegation in 1938. There are about 30 articles. Should keep you busy for a while!
