Marilyn,

Just sent off the bowling banquet picture. I looked up Raymond Longtin also. Only two articles for him. He attended a reception for a Notre Dame graduate student nurse in 1938 and in 1944 he was being sued for $10,000 in damages by a couple who's car he ran into in 1942.

The problem with newspapers of course is that you start reading all those other articles and I love the ads!
Carol,

Oh this is just icing on the cake. Its interesting that Raymond attended a reception at Notre Dame, because his daughter just informed me that she had attended Notre Dame. I bet Raymond was a graduate too? I'll have to ask her.

I checked The Inflation Calculator
http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi

What cost $10000 in 1938 would cost $145764.90 in 2007.

hmm that had to be a pretty bad accident, I would say?

Carol, you really out did yourself with this information, thanks a bunch.

Considering that cars were built like tanks back then, it does make you wonder about the details!

The reception was in Lowell. The girl graduated from Notre Dame. Sometimes my shorthand leaves out a few of the details!

Hi Carol,

Walter Longtin (Raymond & Warren's dad) was involved with all sorts of community activities in the City of Lowell, Massachusetts. He owned a dinner in the city, which he established before the depression and ran for over 25 years up until his passing on in 1951. I do have all his obits as well as Raymond and Warren's and their mother, Annie Morning Longtin, from the Lowell Sun.

Here's a few pics of the family. I'll delete them in a few days, so as not to hog up the space in the gallery. :D

Marilyn,

You've got some great pictures!

By the way, Warren played basketball and baseball (3rd base) too. Speaking of which, there's a game on right now!

Hi Carol,

OMG now you have me running on overload. I need to call my bank in the morning to check with them as to whether or not they now have a "virtual credit card one time number" set up for Vista? Oh how I dislike Vista, but we won't go there. Before using Vista, I could create a "one time virtual credit card number to purchase a temp. membership to Ancestry..... what a pain this Vista turned out to be, but don't blame me for the mistake of ordering a new computer with it installed, its all my husband's fault. Yeah, lets blame him.....

Honestly, I had nothing to do with it, until the new computer arrived on my doorstep and then all the problems began. Oh my life used to be so much easier before Vista

Are the Red Sox playing again tonight?

Here's a few pictures that I took of my nephew, Zachary Morning (not his real name) at the Red Sox -vs- Texas Rangers game on 14 August 2008.
The Red Sox won 10-0
I won the tickets in Box Seats from my employer for "employee appreciation day" and Zachary could not believe how close to the "Green Monster" we were seated.

Its him with the dyed red/black hair and no that's not me behind him
I'm taking the picture of him to document the event for history......

We had a great time and a memory we will cherish for a very long time.....

Hello Marilyn,

Raymond may have been driving a Tank in 1942 when he ran over whatever it was.

I tried the various Longtin names in the US newspapers I can access but didn’t get anywhere. But when I searched for Longtin And Lowell there was an article in the Washington Post that mentioned an Arthur Longtin. Looks like it’s to do with Ten Pin Bowling and he was on the Lowell team. It’s dated February 17, 1929.

Please let me know if you want it and I’ll email it.

All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Yes, please send me the article. Not sure if Arthur is a relative, but Annie Morning had a cousin, David Morning who manufactured bowling pins and baseball bats in Lowell. Interesting!

Thanks in advance
Marilyn

Good Morning!

The auto accident took place on Dec. 24, 1942 and I can't find it in The Lowell Sun. Ancestry has many issues available, but not one around that time or any that I could find for 1943. You might have to check the library for this one and find out if the paper had problems publishing that year because of the war maybe?

Anyway I tried searching the name of the couple who were hit and got sent to a Reno, Nevada paper? The joys of ancestry searches!

I'll send you the article about the lawsuit in a few minutes.

I'm not suffering the problems with Vista, but a virtual credit card would be dangerous in my hands!

Marilyn,

Found the football team picture too!

Wonder what's left? Curling maybe?
