Wand Family to Canada

Post by nelmit » Sun Sep 23, 2007 12:28 pm

I have found George Wands and children travelling from Glasgow to Quebec in 1907. I saw the ships list index on ancestry (I'm not a member so I can't view it) but there is no mention of his wife Eliza Cook (my gg aunt).

I've searched for her death on SP but no luck. :?

Kind regards,
Annette M

Hi Annette,

Bit of a surprise! It wasn't George (the elder) with the children! Here is what it says...

Wands, Mrs Geo age 44
Robert age 20
Angus age 16
Alexander age 11
Jane age 9
William age 4
George age 9months

All heading for Hamilton, Ontario

Ship was SS Sicilian, Master's name John H Fairfull

It states that Mrs George Wands is married, so maybe he went over earlier.

Added Later:

Also in 1907, on 23rd March, there is a 44 year old George Wands travelling with a 23 year old George Wands, both with trade given as Shoemaker, to Halifax, ultimate destination also Hamilton.

The ship is the SS Pretorian, Master Edmund Hunter.

It looks as though the wife and weans followed on 9th June 1907.

Fantastic Mary!!!! :D She shaved a few years off her age but it's definitely her.

Many people from Maybole settled in Hamilton as seen in this photgraph.
Now I know some of them are my ancestors.

Thanks so much for that.

Kind regards,
Annette M

Hi Frances,

I have looked at that photo many times and not once have I noticed the message from their grandson.

Thank you (for being more observant than me ),
