For those with Argentinian connections, a most welcome addition; I received this message today from Lia Rodriguez Romera in Buenos Aires via
south-am-emi@rootsweb.com
"The 1895 Argentina National Census is now available at
http://search.labs.familysearch.org and free. Registration is needed with an email address and it takes a couple of days to get the confirmation.
It has a searchable index that is linked to the digital images. It is a beta version and has some errors in the transcriptions, but searching any possible spelling broadens the chances of finding our ancestors".
Hope it won´t take too many days!

Hi Thrall,
Sounds like this will be a great source for those with links to Argentina...I don't have any links with Argentina myself, that I know of, but always like to have a look anyway. I just clicked on the link and there was a notice saying to come back in 24-48 hours to see the improvements, so looks like I'll have to wait to see what they have in the index.
Regards,
Anne H

Hi Anne, yes they seem to be upgrading.
I did notice that they have a number of US censuses with images, but not all searchable. On the other hand, they seemed to be much clearer than the Ancestry images I have looked at so far.
I think this is an experimental site from LDS looking for feedback from users who gain free access in the meantime.
In my own case, my family is not in the census; where were they - on a trip to Scotland? Probably I will never know; my gr. grandparents died within ten years, and my grand mother upped it back to Scotland, knocked nearly a decade off her age and married the teller in the village bank, eight years younger, but who knew what her (financial) assets were! A good move, otherwise I would not be here - but I digress.
Lets hope the site will be functioning again soon and can help the many looking for their folk in Argentina.
