Patrick Dempsey and Sydney Kerr
Patrick Dempsey was the second oldest child of Edward Dempsey and Margaret Morgan, he was born in 1835 at Dundalk, Louth, Ireland. He is the brother of my great grandfather John Dempsey b. 1848 Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland. Patrick married Sydney Kerr in 1855 at Dalry. She was born in 1838 in Fermanagh, Ireland. Patrick like most of his brothers was a coal miner. I found him in a few census reports and with the birth of some children in various parts of Scotland and then lost him. I couldn't find his death cert. or the death cert. of Sydney. I assumed they had gone to England. I did find the family on 1880 census in Pennsylvania near Pittsburg. Just wondering is there are rellies ou there?

Hello,
If they had children and the children stayed in the U.S., then it's very likely there are rellies out there! Have you tried following the family forward in the U.S. censuses? A quick look in 1900 shows no obvious Patrick nor Sydney, but sons Thomas and Joseph are still in Pennsylvania (the daughters may well be also, but one would need to find their married names). Joseph has two sons, Edmond & Sydney, and Thomas has only been married one year and has no children yet.
How far forward have you looked?
All the best,
Sarah
Later: No sign of Sydney's death, but this looks like Patrick, who died in the poor house in Tioga county, Pennsylvania, where he was in 1880:

Patrick Dempsey, age 54, died Jan. 12, 1889, body taken by friends.

Sarah, thank you for your response and finding Patrick's death. I did follow some of his sons and did get forward a generation or two. I haven't pursued it any further in the hope that some rellie would make the connection backwards. However, you have sparked me to search again thank you.
