Hi, my husband believes one of his relatives, Catherine Welsh, migrated fom Kirkcudbright to the Falkland Islands some time after her marriage to a shepherd called John Blackley in 1868. Can anyone advise on how best to proceed in finding out more? He has checked the NAS catalogue, e-mailed the Falkland Islands Musuem (no response as yet), checked out www.patbrit.org plus links and ordered a book on the history of the islands .What next?

Thanks Tracey,
No he had not checked inbound passenger lists. John Blackey had a son Adam (born about 1852) from a previous marriage. It would appear that he did not travel with his family to the Falkland Islands as he is working as a shepherd in Kells parish at both the 1871 and 1881 Census. There are no subsequent Scottish records for Adam so it is possible that he followed on at a later date, married and had a son who he called Adam - the person you found? Anyway my husband has now found an address for the FI Archivist so hopefully that will provide some answers.
Thanks again.
lizzie.
