Thomas Elliot Muir

Post by garibaldired » Thu Nov 20, 2008 7:12 pm

Hello All,

Quite by chance (googling in fact took me to a Rootsweb site) I found a marriage for one of my relatives.
He was Thomas Elliot Muir born 1901 in South Leith to James and Georgina (ms Strathearn) Muir. On 14th May 1925 he married Louise Devries (born Holland c1904) in Carleton Co Ottawa. He is described as a groundsman and she an employee of Bank Note Co.
Due to privacy laws in Ontario it seems it will be difficult to trace this couple after this date.
I cannot find his passage to Canada either.

Can anyone help me out please? I'd like to know whether there are any descendants or whether the couple even stayed in Canada. Any tips?
I have looked through all the research sites indicated on TS but haven't found anything.

Best wishes,
Meg

There is a possible arrival in Montreal....

Name: Thomas E Muir
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1901
Date of Arrival: 13 May 1920
Vessel: Sicilian
Port of Arrival: Montreal, Quebec
Port of Departure: Glasgow, Scotland

The manifest states he is bound for Toronto to be a farmer. His religion is stated as Church of England though. There are two other Scottish Muir's on the same manifest but they are all traveling to individual locations so it doesn't immediately appear they are related. One is Robert age 29 and one is Walter age 32. What do you think?

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean,

That looks a definite possibility - thank you.
Shame about the C of E though! On the plus side he had a brother Robert born 1891 (so right age here) but no Walter as far I know.

Best wishes,
Meg
