Samuel R. Campbell b. RI?MA, res. Pillar Point&Sacket Ha

Samuel Reed Campbell was b. abt 1806 in either Rhode Island or Massachusetts. he married Mary Kendall Stone.

he moved to Pillar Point or Sacket's Harbor, New York, his children were born in both places. by 1850 he had moved his family to Michigan.

their children were;
Washington 1831-?
Henry Edward 1834-aft. 1910
Loren E. 1837-1913
Augusta Melvina 1840-?
Franklin 1848-?
Luella 1849-aft 1870

I'd like to know more about his time in Jefferson Co., NY, and who his parents were.

I find a possible couple in 1850 Hinsdale, MI;
William Campbell 79 farmer NJ
Ellen Campbell 67 NY
Stephen Campbell 27 farmer NY
Washington Campbell farmer 19 NY
I believe this is our Washington, visiting his grandparents, but I have no proof, yet.
by 1860 Ellen is widowed and living with possibly a daughter's family, that's a guess, though.

the only other data I've been able to find for Samuel in NY is this;
History of Jefferson County, New York : with illustrations and biographical sketches of some of its prominent men and pioneers.
Baptist Church-Pillar Point.
This Church and Society was formed September 22 1838 with L. Howard, G. C. Parsons, Hiram A Reed, Soloman Ingalls, Elisha Harris and Samuel R. Campbell, trustees.

I am also interested in the above mentiond Hiram Reed. is he a cousin of Samuel?

thank you for any thoughts or information.

Hi Topaz,

What proof do you have that Samuel was born in Rhode Island or Massachusetts? The Vital Record Indexes begin in
1841 for Massachusetts and 1852 in Rhode Island. Before those dates the event would be recorded in the Town Clerk's office
of the City or Town that the birth occurred. So without
knowing exactly where he was born, it might be like looking for a needle in a haystack? Rhode Island for instance has 39
cities & towns and I wouldn't even dare to guess at how many there are in Massachusetts? I'm listing the archives info
just in case you want to double check......They won't accept any requests for lookups by e-mail, but I'm certain they will
answer any questions.

Regards
Marilyn
