Em/immigration in Argentina

Post by ihenderson73 » Tue Oct 13, 2009 6:11 pm

My mother was born in Paraguay and brought up in Argentina before marrying my father and settling here in the late 1960s.

My grandfather was originally born in Australia and therefore was able to enter the United Kingdom as a Commonwealth citizen. He exercised that ability in 1960 when he came to the UK with his wife (my step-grandmother) and his four children. I found the record of their disembarkation in Liverpool in March 1960 the other day quite by chance.

After a conversation with my mother, I have managed to find out that their stay in the UK was 2 years and 3 months, and that they sailed back to Buenos Aires in June 1962, departing from Cwmbran in Wales (apologies if that's spelt incorrectly).

Can anyone tell me where I might go in order to get a copy of the record of their departure from Wales? Do I need to approach it from the point of view of their arrival in Argentina? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction for that?
Currently researching: Henderson, Bennet, Brown, Callan, Carruthers, Chisholm, Crow, Gray, Grierson, McAlister, McDonald, Moffat, Morris, Morrison, Muir, Peck, Ross, Sharp, Taylor, Walker, White. And lots, lots more :)

Hello,
Someone else may have a better idea, but I know I have seen lists of passengers going to Argentina on the New York passenger lists. They were recorded as they passed through, although they were just in transit.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi ihenderson:

We have TalkingScot Library which identify a variety of helpful sites and provide information on many genealogical issues that may be helpful, including one for The Americas viewtopic.php?t=10349

Check under Argentina. For records of passengers, you can check the Castlegarden and Ellis Iland sites for a record if they passed through the USA under Immigration - USA

Another possible source is http://www.theshipslist.com/ where you might find information on passenger lists for the countries in which you are interested.

Hope this is of help,
Frances

Other passenger lists (1890-1960 ) can be found at www.findmypast.com - search is free, images are pay-per-view.

Best wishes
