Hi. Can anyone help with census records or anything else please ?
I have 1929 ships record of Herbert from U.K to Canada. He travelled about three weeks after his wife & sons. Susanna (Cathcart ) Law, Edward, Arthur, Herbert Alan, & William. He died 26th March 1960 at Jarvis Street (Toronto Star). He spent time living in Lansdowne Avenue & worked at Weston Golf Club as a gardener. On British census, some state born England, others state China. I've spent a long time trying to find the roots of this man, so anything will help.

Could you give us a few more bits of info Cathy?
What census records do you have?
Do you have the children's births or his marriage?
And what age would Herbert have been when he sailed in 1929 and at his death?
A few more clues might help somebody pin him down more successfully.

Not unusual for children to be sent 'home' to boarding school while the parents and younger children stayed abroad - Missionaries, Consular staff, major business employees etc.

You have probably already looked into this but...
On the 1929 Canadian passenger record he says he has just come from his uncle, Mr Robert McCallum, living at 33, Phoenix Park Terrace, Glasgow.
If you search for a Law-McCallum marriage in Scotland, only one comes up between 1870 and 1880. It is in Glasgow City, in Tradeston district in 1878
Just playing around with the search function on scotlandspeople.gov.uk her name appears to be Martha. No idea if this is your family, but wondering if you have checked it out.
