Can anyone find anything out about this pair?
They arrived in America in 1907. According to the Ellis Island site they were going to a Mr R Howard, Rosehill, Turtlecreek, PA. He is the husband of Helen's daughter Janet Fairlie (ley)born in 1884
Helen was aged 66 and Elizabeth was aged 18.
Helen is my g grandmother's sister. Elizabeth is her grandaughter

Hi Jean
Don't have access myself but - if someone could check for all of them on the 1910 US census on Ancestry for you (and subsequent ones in 1920 and 1930) you may well get some answers. Some of our great TS pals across the pond have helped me on this many times. Want to bet who takes up the challenge first ? - my money might is on Just your namesake in Maine !!
Best regards
Ted

My ears doth ringeth!! Ok...so you're right....I confess I was looking in the census returns already. But so far I've not had a break through. Haven't really drilled down but first pass through shows no HOWARD named people in Turtle Creek 1900 or 1910 which is not good!! I looked quickly for Helen and Elizabeth in 1910 but didn't see them either...but if they split up or Helen got married then it becomes much more complicated!! I did go find the immigration passenger record just to see what else it might hold for clues. I suppose you've seen this? If not let me know and I'll see what I can do. From that it state nearest of kin in Scotland for Elizabeth as Mrs. Martin, Blairhill, Coatbridge and for Helen, Archd Fairlie, 15 Albion Cottages, Broxburn. I can't be certain but there was a handwritten notation by Elizabeths name that might have meant she was a granddaughter to Helen??? There were other notes on the page such as "wife" but her's looked like grndau or some such.
So yeah...I'm looking but I'm not breaking down your wall just yet.
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean
Yes, Elizabeth is Helen's granddaughter. I have no idea who Mrs Martin is at all. Archibald Fairley(Fairlie) is Helen's son. They keep changing the spelling of their surname, which doesn't help.
I can find no record of Ronald Howard or his wife going to America. But they got there somehow. Ronald Howard married Helen's daughter, Janet Fairley (Fairlie)in 1904 in Broxburn. His occupation was Journeyman Engineer, born 1879/1880 in Carnbroe, Bothwell.
Best wishes
