I will take note of their names for you. I know there were Walkers lived in the small farming community of Newry about 7 miles from Maffra. Will try and post some pics of Maffra for you cant promise too soon.
Cheers Clare I love this site Caroline has been very helpful on my Appin and Haddington ancestors.
Cheers Clare
Thank you, Clarebelle, for your interest. Contact with the Maffra site didn't give any results, so I would be delighted if you could help in any way. I had thought that the death of 3 brothers the same month might have been newsworthy. They would have been aged around 27, 31 and 35 years. Several members of the family were timber merchants, wrights, joiners.

Newry Hotel

Post by Clarebelle » Wed Aug 02, 2006 7:07 pm

The Newry was owned by the Weatherley family for many years. Actually my Grandmother was born when her parents had the hotel. The Weatherleys sold the hotel not so long ago they were wonderful people and the Newry Hotel was very popular venue for partys etc: Stew what was the name of the people you stayed with? I spent a lot of time in Newry with my Grandparents and lived there as a child.

Hi Clare

The family I stayed with were the Johnsons, I was there from about '71 to '72, they then moved to run a delicatessen in Melbourne, but not sure now if it was before or after Mrs J's heart attack, I think it was after though. I had a very serious car accident in '71 in the west on leave so the time frame is a bit vague, or is that just me

We are going to catch up and see the video and pic. They were in a group I help run before they married. Lovely couple ideally suited one of those fairy tales Catriona.

Thank you, Clare, for looking for me.

I'm interested in the mention of the burial of an R WALKER in Maffra in 1882.
It was in a booklet at Paisley Librairie that I came across the mention of the death of the three brothers, Andrew, William and Robert in Maffra in August1857. Parents names were given for all three. However, when another brother, Franklin died in 1869, between Suez and Bombay (on his way to join a brother in Australia?), his will mentionned Robert, living in Maffra, as his inheritor. Which makes me wonder: If Robert was still alive in 1869, he could well be the R Walker who died in 1882. Worth digging into, I think.

Best wishes
