One more thing,

If anyone has a particular interest in the American Civil War they should visit this Library of Congress site and view the fantastic photographs there, many with high resolution versions. It’s over 140 years ago yet some look as crystal clear as if they were taken yesterday.

The American Civil War was probably the first war in which the ordinary soldier, thanks to the photography of Matthew Brady & Co., had the chance of being recorded for posterity. Before that there was only art and then only for the Generals and suchlike.

Thanks Leanne,

It’s a fascinating subject. There’s one with my surname buried in my local cemetery, but not a relation unless he’s extremely distant.

Yes, very interesting, I didn't even realize we had any Civil War Vets in Australia and NZ.
I have been looking at the sites especially the Library of Congress site.
