Hi Janoh and welcome to TalkingScot
Before we can help with your query we would need a bit more information re time scale
When was he born and did he have any siblings.
If it was before 1875 it may be recorded on the LDS records which would help find siblings too.
After 1875 the LDS have mainly submitted entries which may, or may not be terribly accurate.
That's where Scotlandspeople are very useful since they hold all the official records which can give parents names, parish, etc.
Because of privacy and confidentiality rules they only release a birth record up to 1910 since it is possible that quite a few folk could still be alive who were born after that date. Scotlandspeople is a pay to view site but what you get is a copy of the original Register entry.
We stick to their guidelines by not displaying names which fall after this cut-off date.
Our headings on the 'HOME' page gives helpful tips on various sources of information and can take you straight to the official records. The cost per record is reasonable (30 credits costs £6.00) and this will cover 5 searches and 5 record downloads.

Re: charles lindsay
Hi all,
Do you suppose it was this one?
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.anc ... page2.html
Taken from The Queenslander, Brisbane, Saturday, 30 November, 1895
QUEENSLAND NEWS
Rockhampton, November 22
At the District Court to-day Joseph KLARE, alias Joseph KILLIAN, who pleaded guilty to three charges of theft, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Charles Gibson LINDSAY, who pleaded guilty to the charge of embezzling the funds of Court Sir Robert DUFF, of the Ancient Order of Foresters, at Mount Morgan, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment.
He is in the Australian Electoral Rolls for 1903 in Queensland, District Maranoa, Subdistrict Longreach. He was living on Crane Street and was a bookkeeper. Still haven't found anything with his age though!
All the best,
Sarah

Re: charles lindsay
Okay, there's this guy:
1881
5 Derby Ter., Glasgow Barony, Lanarkshire
Charles Lindsay, 61, Head, born Edinburgh, Retired Plumber
Catherine Lindsay, 56, Wife, born Dollar, Clackmannanshire
Charles G Lindsay, 26, Son, born Edinburgh, Coml Clerk (Iron)
Isabella Beirgess, 21, Servant, born Kirkcaldy, Fifeshire, General Domestic
There is a submitted birth in the IGI for Charles Lindsay on 15 Nov 1855 in Edinburgh.
Father: Charles Lindsay
Mother: Catherine Smith
Also this submitted marriage:
Charles Lindsay & Catherine Smith
30 Jun 1854 Edinburgh, Midlothian
The two submitted records do seem to correspond to records on Scotland's People, so worth looking at if this is indeed the right person. I am probably jumping to conclusions and running with it...
But nothing else to do tonight, being snowed in in Southern France Nothing like the Mediterranean climate, eh?
Cheers,
Sarah

Re: charles lindsay
Okay, I think I'm actually on the right track here after all.
Charles G. son of Charles and Catherine is difficult to find in censuses, but I think this is him in 1861:
1861
Viewforth, Alloa, Clackmannanshire
Robert Oliphant Arnot, 36, Head, born Dollar, Clackshire, Solicitor
Margaret Arnot, 31, Wife, born Alloa, Clackshire
Catharine Lindsay, 36, Sister-in-law, born Dollar, Clackshire
Charles Lindsay, 5, Nephew, born Edinburgh, Scholar
Jane Mitchell, 18, Servant, born Waylkonile By Donlaes, Lanark S, Domestic Serv
Here is Catherine with her sister Margaret Arnot in later censuses, for the record;
1891
Hillview, Crieff, Perthshire
Catherine Lindsay, 66, Head, born Dollar, Clackmannan, Annuitant
Margaret Arnott, 60, Visitor, born Alloa, Clackmannan, Annuitant
Betsy Smith, 51, Visitor, born Alloa, Clackmannan, Annuitant
Jessie Dalrymple, 30, Visitor, born Edinr, Midlothian
Christina Greig, 19, Serv, born Alloa, Clackmannan, Gen Servant - Domestic
1901
Ivy Knoll, Crieff, Perthshire
Margaret Arnot, 71, Head, born Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Annuitant
Catherine Lindsay, 77, Sister, born Dollar, Clackmannansh, Annuitant
Barbara Morrison, 65, Visitor, born Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Living On Own Means
Mary Grant, 40, Serv, born Reith, Banffshire, Domestic Servant
Catherine Smith was the daughter of Michael Smith and Margaret McIntyre according to the IGI. This can be checked on her death cert:
Catherine Lindsay, other surname Smith, born 1825 +/- 3 years, died in 1902 in Crieff, Perthshire
A Charles Lindsay born 1818 died in 1881 in Glasgow City-- possibly the father? His father, according to the IGI is probably Charles also.
Now here's the Australian side of the equation:
In the BDM Queensland Index Search there is a marriage for Charles Gibson Lindsay in 1889. He married Mary Gleeson.
The names of the children of Charles Gibson Lindsay and Mary Gleeson are very suggestive:
1890 Charles Michael Lindsay (the names of Charles G Lindsay's two grandfathers-- paternal was Charles and maternal was Michael)
1894 Clair Arnot Lindsay (middle name the married name of his aunt)
1897 Catherine Anne Lindsay (first name the name of his mother)
1900 Cecil Peter (presumably names from Mary Gleeson's family?)
So, I'd like to believe that Charles Gibson Lindsay in Queensland is the same person as Charles G Lindsay, son of Charles Lindsay, Plumber and Catherine Smith. What do you all think?

Sarah,
That's the line I would have gone with. There are a bunch of Charles Lindsays listed but only the one Charles G. on the 1881 census that I saw. I didn't have time to follow this one too far. We are cleaning up in the garage after a water pipe froze and burst. So much for moving south to get away from winter.
Glad I don't own an orange grove in Florida though!

Looking for: Clerihew, Longmuir/Longmore, Chalmers, Milne, Barclay in Newhills,

Re: charles lindsay
Hello all,
I think you’re right on the button Sarah,
There’s a Chas Lindsay, age 26, arrived in Queensland on the “Oban Bay” on 19 July
1883. http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research ... ration.asp
According to this site http://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/s ... g-qld3.htm the “Oban Bay” arrived 19 July 1883 at Townsville having left Glasgow on 20 March 1883.
I looks like the family moved south prior to 1915. There’s a death in Burwood in Sydney NSW in 1928. http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm
9879/1928, LINDSAY CHARLES G, CHARLES, CATHERINE, BURWOOD
Here are the deaths for the males and unmarried females in NSW.
5602/1915, LINDSAY CECIL P, CHARLES G, MARY, LISMORE
13135/1944, LINDSAY CHARLES MICHAEL, CHARLES GIBSON, MARY, TAREE
30251/1958, LINDSAY CLAIR ARNOT, CHARLES GIBSON, MARY, RYDE
It looks like Catherine married a gentleman by name of Tysoe and died at Burwood.
There’s a death notice in the Sydney Morning Herald on 8 May 1928 but not quite yet available. It lists children. http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/se ... InDecade:8
Hope that helps,
Alan

Back again,
Glasgow Herald, Saturday, March 31, 1883
Sailed from the Tail of the Bank, March 30.
Oban Bay, 1068, Peacock, from Glasgow for Queensland, general and passengers.
Glasgow Herald, Tuesday, June 20, 1893
DEATHS.
SMITH.—At Ivy Knoll, Crieff, on the 19th inst., Betsy Smith, fourth daughter of the late Mr. Michael Smith, Alloa.—Friends, kindly accept of this (the only) intimation.
SP has a Will for ARNOT, ROBERT OLIPHANT, 17/09/1870, WRITER AT ALLOA
All three Smith sisters are on annuities in 1891, maybe provided for in this will but quite possibly SP has another for their father Mr. Smith? There’s something there for a Michael Smith died 22/11/1882 at Mid Strathore, Dysart, Fife.
All the best,
Alan
