WHERE TO START

Post by wini » Wed Jan 27, 2010 10:16 am

A friend has asked me if I can find 2 Births in Victoria and one in South Australia.
The Vic ones are 1894 and 1898 or '99.
The S.A one would be around the same era.
Where would you advise me to start. Pity we don't have a S.P here

Hello Wini,

Victoria BDM’s are here. https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/CA257 ... ndexes~&3=~

You have to pay for the search results but only 99c at a time. If they’re siblings you should be able to work it so you get both, and maybe more on the same page. Parents names are included in search results.

The South Australia situation has been pretty grim but it looks like there’s a new transcription service at http://www.saghs.org.au/research.htm#transcription

If they’re males they’re about cannon fodder age so it’s probably worth checking National Archives to see if there’s a WW1 file there for them. http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/record ... index.aspx

Also check the WW2 Nominal Roll to see if they enlisted in Dad’s Army. http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/

Don’t forget to check out the Newspapers to see if their names crop up there. I’ve been getting bucket loads. http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home

More here http://www.coraweb.com.au/

Hope that helps,
Alan

Wini

I have CDs for Victorian Births to 1920 if you would like to give me the names. SA CDs are available but I don't have them - if you are near your state library or a family history centre etc they probably have copies of same. I agree with Alan, you are likely to find some of the folks - or siblings - serving in WWI - a wonderful resource at the naa.

The nla newspapers are also very useful - I have found some notices online for my Victorian families. Not sure what is there for SA - it is the only state my families don't seem to have visited.

You might also check family search - the LDS have some records online - not sure if all the AVRI is there, but it covers Victoria until 1888 (but not SA)

Thanks Trish
The Victorian one is Ivy Healey or perhaps Healy sisters names were Myrtle, Olive and Violet. Ivy born probably 1898 1899
Maybe in Mt. Macedon or Gisborne area
Just got a birth date for Ivy 28th June 1899.

The other is Conradi, Harold Ernest D.O.B probably 28/7/1894.
No idea where.

Thanks a lot

Trish,

I have one more request if it isn't too much trouble.
Harold Ernest Conradi b. 1894 married Ivy Veronica Healey in 1931.

There is some idea in the Conradi family that this was a second marriage for Harold, can you have a look.
All the information you have found was kept secret from the children of Harold and Ivy.

Thank you
wini

Hopefully they can carry on from there

Hi Wini

I'll pm some info - getting to times when SP don't like the data on the main board and if family secrets are involved your friend may like it private.

Using any of the references I have given & the link from Alan, your friend can download any of the certificates for $AU17.50 - a little more expensive than the Scottish ones - but they do contain alot of information. There could also be multiple people around with the same name - often causes confusion, although this name doesn't seem very common.

There is a record related to a Harold Ernest Conradi on the NAA - heading is passport, location is Adelaide - 1900 - might be someone different

If she lives near a capital city, I suggest she visits the state library. The librarians are always very helpful and there would probably be more information available than names/dates. The Vic State archives could also be useful. Lots of things online there now. An 1869 Conradi will (Williamstown)
