Halliday and Shepherds in New Zealand .....

Post by janehalliday » Mon Mar 06, 2006 11:38 am

Hello everyone.
I am researching Halliday's and Shepherds's in New Zealand mainly in the Christchurch and Dunedin area's.
I have alot of information already, but am always looking for more.
William Halliday my GG Grandfather came over from Kirkcudbright to Linton ( Geelong area of Victoria Australia ) Married Margaret Shepherd, from Dundee in Linton Diggings Victoria ( Gold mining area ) had 2 children William and John ( my G Grandfather ). They then took off to Christchurch NZ taking Margarets Shepherd's parents. Patrick Nimmo Shepherd and Jean/Jane ( Bell ) Shepherd.
William joined up with his brother John Sprott Halliday and sister in-law
Henrietta (Dickie ) Halliday. John S was a farmer and land owner in the Ellesmere/ Leeston area.
William and Margaret had many more children as did John S and Henrietta.
John Halliday (My G Grandfather) returned to Australia took Ellen Lillian Harding back to NZ and married, then returned to Australia, that is how I am here in Australia.
I have many cousins in NZ as a result of Halliday and Shepherds.
Shepherds are in the Dunedin area. I have alot of info on this family as well.
I have had great contact with cousins from New Zealand but would love to hear from more and share our Family History. I am also willing to help anyone researching I have received so much help over the years, it is great to give back.
Kindest regards

Hi Jane

I smiled at your comment "I have alot of information already, but am always looking for more". That's true of most of us, isn't it. Finding new information on our families simply whets our appetite.

Thank you for expressing your willingness to help anyone researching. You have probably noticed on the Australia Forum that a number of our posters are looking for information about relations who have emigrated.

Kind regards

Catriona
