Muir family from scotland to Tasmania .....

Post by nellie17 » Wed Jun 28, 2006 4:20 am

Hi All am not sure if i am in the right area but here goes.

I am looking for information on a family of Muirs that came to Tasmania in 1834 his name is James Muir he was born in 1824 in Scotland he married a woman by the name of Ann Harrison/Garth/Pattison. They married in 1850 in Hobart Tasmania.

She had married 3 times before her death in 1915.

Now James Muir is said to have been a captain of whaling vessels it is said that James died at sea from falling off a ship and drowned.

I have a rather large descendent list of his. But iam looking for his parents, at first thought i thought they were John Muir and Mary Struthers but since then it could be a number of possibilities.

I am hoping that some one out there is doing this family or maybe able to point me in the right direction.

Kindest Regards

Nellie

Hi Nellie

May I give you a warm welcome to Talking Scot.

I was interested to see your mention of John Muir and Mary Struthers. One of my Blairs married, Joseph MUIR, son of the said couple, in 1861 in Paisley.
You're right that particular Muir family is large. The James in 'my' family was born around 1824 in Neilston.

If you send me a pm with your e-mail address I can send you the information I have..

Best wishes

Catriona
