silcocks in brisbane .....

Post by karenc » Wed Jul 05, 2006 8:06 pm

Hi All,

Would love to know if anyone is researching Silcocks who originated in england and emigrated to brisbane in 1862. If anyone has any info it would be great to hear from you.

Some of the main names are leonard, walter, louisa, ellen, david and edwin silcock.

Thanks

Karen

Hi Karen,

Silcocks is an unusual name, I have looked in the phone directory and there are only nine listed, for the whole of Australia, if you go to www.whitepages.com.au and look under regional & metropolitan for each state, you will find them.

I would suggest it may be worth writing a letter.

Qld - 2 regional (two listing for the same address)
NSW - 3 metropolitan & 2 regional.
NT - non listed
ACT - 1 metropolitan
SA - non listed
Vic - 1 metropolitan
WA - non listed
Tas - non listed

Hope this helps

Karen

I know a Silcock family of Brisbane - raised 4 boys in the Kenmore area 1950s/60s - I don't know the names of the parents - only some of the boys. (Who are no longer boys!). I can pass on any information to one of them if you would like me to. (He no longer lives in Brisbane).

Just realised - there is no S at the end of their name - perhaps a completely different family name - are you looking for Silcock or Silcocks?

Hi Kathy and Trish,

The name should be silcock, dont think my fingers typed the right thing

Thanks for the suggestions from both of you. Trisha if you wouldnt mind passing on some info to the silcock you know that would be great.

I will give you some of the names i have:

Leonard Silcock born abt 1842 in england, married ellen cuthbert and this is where my connection comes in. they had 10 children whose names were marion, ellen, jane, william, walter, louisa, margaret, john leonard, david walter henry and edwin hanley stafford silcok. i think all of them were born in brisbane between 1865 and 1885.

thanks for the help

Karen

Hi Karen

I did a quick search at the NAA site & quite a few Silcock returns came up.

I know this is later than the original Silcock children who were first born in Australia, but these entries may be their children or grandchildren etc

http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/ResearcherScreen.asp

Just type in the the name where it says KEYWORD

I will keep an eye out for any more leads.

Kym
