Hello Margaret,

Did you ever figure out the bit about the statue of a Queen and whether the Chalmers Building was the one mentioned by Drapadew?

This 1950 aerial photograph shows a fairground in the vicinity of the building. http://www.blantyre.biz/Caldwell-Hall.html

Maybe the statue was a portable one used as a prop for one of the rides or whatever at the fairground. The sky’s the limit when it comes to Paper Mache. http://www.papiermache.co.uk/gallery/item/15401/

Even large and heavy statues of QV have traveled. There was one in Dublin that ended up in Sydney. She was sent there, more or less in disgrace, like a convict. http://www.dictionaryofsydney.org/entry ... itt_street

All the best,
Alan

Hi Allan
Thanks for your suggestions...got me thinking so I googled all statues of Queen Victoria (I am sure it was her) and have found one that sort of matches my memory as a 6 year old, it is in Dundee. You see I can just remember this very fierce looking lady sitting on a large chair/throne, I can remember the look of her frightened me a bit. So maybe this is the one as we did travel around the highlands while I was living in Scotland.
Once again thanks for your ideas
cheers
Margaret :D
