An old house in Woodside Aberdeen

Post by Jimanderin » Fri Feb 12, 2016 1:07 pm

Hello

I am looking into the family tree of Reuben Laing b. 10 aug 1859 New Machar.

He was a wealthy butcher in Aberdeen and built a house which was called 'Newseat' in Pirie's lane Woodside. I think it was number 14. According to family records it was built in 1904

I have several pictures of what I think was the house but cannot verify it as being the one. It looks like Pirie's lane was redeveloped in the 70s and maybe the house no longer exists.

Would anyone be able to help to identify the house in the picture. It would really help to link the people in the pictures to the family.

Many thanks

Jim

Ps ive attached the pictures with this post. Thanks

I had a look at Google Street View and I think it might still be there.

It certainly looks very similar and it is also No. 14.

A closer look also shows that it is No. 14.

Sorry if this appears twice I'm having trouble editing my post.

Annette

Hi.

Thanks for looking at this address on google maps for me. I agree with you, it looks like the same house although the lack of garden threw me a little at first.

Its another piece of the puzzle of the tree and will help put some colour on the people's names.

Thanks a lot.

Jim - re the picture you have posted it is the home of Reuben Laing, Newseat, 14 Pirie's Lane, Woodside. Reuben and his wife Elizabeth (Lizzie) Burnett are the main figures seen. This home was demolished late 1970s early 1980s for roadworks. Assume you are researching the Laing family?
